Re: luftwaffe losses, Arnheim 9/28/1944
Ops. Order #199, Mission #Y21-7.On Sept.28th,1944 the 404th FG, flying a group fighter sweep in the "area from/to Aachen-Venlo-Nijmegen-Arnheim-Hertogenbosch-Eindhoven-Aachen" was attacked by approx. 20 Bf-109s at 1625 hrs. at approx. 20,000 ft. northwest of Arnheim/map point E-4389. Seven 109s were claimed, six by 508th FS 2nd Lt. John W. Wainwright. One Fw-190 & one Bf-109 were also claimed damaged. Two P-47s were also damaged, one my dad was flying.
