Re: 10/05/1940 Do17Z W/nr. 4521
Luc,
Haven't heard from you in a while.
I have this in our EoE Loss List DB as:
"May 10, 1940: Aufkl.St. 7 Fl.Div. Dornier Do17Z (4521). Shot down by Fokker G1 of 3-II-1 (Sgt-Major Buwalda & Sgt Wagner) and belly-landed in polder ‘Het Oudeland van Strijen’, between Westmaas and Cillaarshoek, 5.10 a.m. Oberlt Erich Langhuth, Lt[Lothar] Sähloff, Uffz Gerhard Rogall, and Uffz Bernhard Striet all captured unhurt. Aircraft 4Q+KH 100% write-off.
This crew vacated the aircraft and started walking towards Westmaas. After an exchange of fire with troops from a searchlight unit near Munnikendijk, during which two Dutch soldiers were killed, they commandeered a military car and driver in an effort to reach German lines at Dordrecht. But, unable to find a way off Hoekse Waard island, they were forced to abandon the car near Puttershoek where they eventually surrendered to troops of the Dutch 34 IR."
According info from the source for several photos of this a/c: "Between Westmaas and Cillaarshoek is located the polder “Het Oudeland van Strijen” and this polder is bordered at the north side by the Ritselaarsdijk and it is there that the Dornier carried out a belly landing.
Of course there are as almost always numerous civilians who are surprised by what’s happening. They see how Leutnant Sähloff, Oberleutnant Langhuth and the Unteroffiziere Rogall and Strietz climb down the aircraft. The four Germans belonged to the Aufklärungsstaffel (F) des II. Flakkorpses and from early May on they have been added to the strength of 7. Flieger Division."
is this what you're looking for? Do you have further info or photos on this incident?
Warmest regards,
Larry Hickey
