Re: P/O Vivian BRIDGES (169 Sqn) combat reports
Hello ClinA- 78
The Monthly Supplementary Narrative of Operations has a short summary of the combat report for the night 10/11 May:
´Night 10/11th May
100 Group a/c Mosquito “D” of 239 Squadron E. of AMIENS at 2354 hrs. height 8,000 ft. recognized a ME.110. The Mosquito at the range of 200 yds. pulled up and opened fire. Strikes were seen on the fuselage and starboard wing, and one engine blew up. The E/A then went down and was seen to crash and explode. The Me.110 is claimed as destroyed.´
For the night 7/8 July I assume it must be the following claim:
´100 Group Mosquito “J” of 239 Squadron, S.E. of Charleroi, at 0135 hrs, height 20,000 ft, when a ME.110 was identified. Fire was opened at 300 ft, hitting the E/A amidships in the fuselage. A tremendous explosion followed immediately and the E/A blow up right in front of the Mosquito, pieces flying back in all directions. The E/A was seen to burn on the ground. The Me.110 is claimed as destroyed.’
During the same night Mosquito “Y” claimed 2 Me.110s destroyed and “V” one FW.190 destroyed.
Regards,
Peter
