I got the hint from his Obituary that his exploits were chronicled in the book "Fighters Up". I don't know exactly what information about Dempsey/Pond contain these book. About the Google-Books search I got some hits for "Dempsey" in this book.
So his story could be possibly mentioned from page 72 (Headline: "They couldn't wait")
Also on page 82 and 92 I got some hits.
Would be very nice if you could check this capital/pages about his story.
