It is textile-bakelit. It is similar to wood. It can contain moisture. You can cut it easily. But it smells so different. It is clearly seen on the photos, that it is not plywood, the texture can be seen:

Textile-bakelite was widely used on german and russian aircraft during the war (and also after it).
