Re: Help with Fliegerschulen Signatories

Hi Manfred,

Yes, the Lexikon site and the ww2.dk site almost always have the same information on Luftwaffenverbaende. In this case, Grosse Kampffliegerschule 3, the information comes from this outstanding source:

Carlsen, Sven and Michael Meyer. Die Flugzeugführer-Ausbildung der Deutschen Luftwaffe 1935-1945 [German Air Force Pilot Training 1935-1945]. Zweibrücken: VDM Heinz Nickel Verlag:
Band I: Von der Grundausbildung bis zur Blindflugschule [From Elementary Training to Instrument Flight School] (1998). ISBN: 3-925480-29-3. Hb (laminated cover). 496p. Profusely illus. (incl. color photos). Charts and tables.
Band II: Fliegerwaffenschulen und Ergänzungsgruppen [Aviation Combat Schools and Replacement Groups] (2000). ISBN: 3-925480-34-x. Hb (laminated cover). 576p. Profusely illus. (incl. color photos). Tables.

In Band II, page 362, it says Oberst Robert Krauss was Kdr. of Gr.KFS 3 Warschau-Okecie. He held that position from 01.10.40 to 30.04.41. Prior to 01.10.40, there was no Stab or II. Gruppe. Only I./Gr.KFS Warschau-Okecie existed and its Kdr. was Obstlt. Hans von Wussow. That's what it says in this very comprehensive source. Its immediate predecessor was Grosse Kampffliegerschule Lechfeld, which moved to Warschau-Okecie on 1 January 1940 and changed its name. No one seems to know who the Kdr. of Gr.KFS Lechfeld was either. It's a mystery, I guess.
