Re: I/KG40 Attack on Glasgow 28/29 November 1940
Keith
You must have got this from my Blitz book.
With my knowledge of KG 40, IV Fliegerkorps reported 3 FW 200s took off at 0011-0055 hrs.
Between 0720 and 0755 hrs, one dropped 2 X SC 500, 12 SC 50 and 60 B1 E1 on Glasgow. Fires observed NW Glasgow
0710-0720, due to 10/10 cloud, other ac dropped similar load on Falkirk as alternate target
0620-0710, due to 10/10 cloud, similar bomb load was dropped by 3rd ac on alternate target south of Glasgow.
Why did they use Condors? It was a risk worth taking with the poor weather and skills of the I/KG 40 aircrew and Glasgow was essentially a maritime target?
