B-24 with Soviet Nose Art
Seeking any info leading to the idea behind this nose art in Russian of the 392nd BG . On port side is the communist slogan "Tovarish " shown while on starboard AKA "PICCADILLY COMMANDO". 392th BG didn't participate on the shuttle bombings from Russia and to my knowledge neither brought any VIP's to Russia . The enlisted airman and the designer standing near the noseart M/Sgt Stephen Dergo had anything but Russian roots.
Was wondering what were the motives behind this gesture when in fact the US and Soviet relationships were kind of strained especially prior and the Poltawa events on June 21, '44 and not as great as published on papers, adding to this various incidents when US airmen were detained in Russia and kept as POW's long after war's end .
