Could be... Misidentification was very common issue in the winter months of 1944-1945 due to poor visibility and distance. Soviet pilots regularly misidentified Bf 109s and Fw 190s... In many battles with Bf 109s they reported "Fokkers". This problem definitely makes research very challenging....
