Re: Heinkel 111P-2 W.N.r 1535
Steve,
I have this aircraft listed as follows:
12 December 1940 9./KG27 Heinkel He111P-2 (1535). Crash-landed at Rennes badly damaged following sortie south of Bristol. Possibly that attacked by F/O W. Whitney-Straight of No.601 Squadron over the Channel 15 miles south of Start Point 10.00 a.m. FF Fw Siegfried Blass and BO Fw Kurt Müller both believed unhurt, BM Uffz Martin Peper badly wounded in head - died next day, BF Uffz Rudolf Kranert slightly wounded in right heel - admitted to hospital. Aircraft 90% damaged - write-off.
My records conflict with those of WAISS (as posted by GRM) thus:
13 December 1940 7./KG27 Heinkel He111P-2 (2864). One engine disabled by AA fire during.night attack on Sheffield 1.30 a.m. Returned on one engine which caught fire prior to heavy crash-landing through huts on airfield boundary at Dinard. FF Oberlt Ottmar Dold (Gruppe TO) wounded - admitted to hospital, BO Lt Hans-Otto Heinert, BF Oberfw [ ] Cryns, and BM Oberfw Robert Brinkmann all unhurt. Aircraft 1G+HR 90% damaged - write-off.
I have no record of any BM Uffz Georg BURKEL in connection with either of these losses.
