However Mike's reply makes it clear we are talking about a c/n plate and it seems pretty conclusive it has been taken from a crash place.
So, now we are only waiting for Del's answer if he knows anything which goes against the general wisdom of Boeing c/n vs USAAF s/n or if he simply made a mistake.

Udf is correct (if general wisdom is followed) that c/n 7690 was 42-97217 and the code JW-L belonged to 92BG and its 326 BS.
