Thanks for reply, I can only now offer that the airfield may have been a collection point for downed aircraft from the area ? and that in the one that was seen by the American soldier it still held some remains that included the "dog-tag" ? although I read it as though he was referring to the pilot. As I said earlier I assume it to have been a fighter but it may well have been another type.
