BLAIR, John Sgt RAF 550006 No.501 Sqn. 3/42-4/42.
Known as "Ian". Former Observer in Middle East with No.113 Sqn* in 1940. Awarded the DFM when he managed to fly the Blenheim back after its pilot (41803 P/O John Henry REYNOLDS) had been killed by enemy action. Retrained as pilot and posted to No.501 Sqn. On 25.04.42, his Spitfire was damaged by flak and force-landed near Worth Matravers, Dorset. Hospitalised. Later posted to No.602 Sqn in March 1943. Commissioned (53630) in October 1943 and completed his tour in May 1944. One confirmed victory**, No.602 Sqn, Europe 1944. DFM (No.113 Sqn).
