Re: Ju-88 Day Fighter Units?
The three pilots of the 336th FS/4th FG (Gentile, Garrison, Norley) claimed a Ju 88 at 13.10 hrs "East of Zuiderzee". This does match with the loss of the 6./NJG 2 Ju 88 at Hooghalen. The NVM lists the time as being before 14.00 hrs. The combat reports of Norley & Garrison tell us that the a/c was attacked at an height of 15,000 feet and the combat developed till 2,000 feet when the Ju 88 entered into cloud with both engines and port wing on fire. The gunner was silenced after the third pass. When the Mustangs saw the Ju 88 for the first time, the Junkers was diving.
