Thanks for the reply Chris - it's pretty much what I expected.
The only significant progress that I've made since the original post is obtaining (via eBay) a group photo of some of the pilots of 8./JG 26, including Uffz. Heinrich Wälter.
The last time I checked Don's JG26 website it still contained the request not to submit individual queries - so to date I haven't - despite having very itchy fingers to do so on several occasions! :-)
