Data Plates Exposed #6: He 111 H-6

Next in the series is a plate (main airframe?) from the stalwart Heinkel He 111 bomber. This plate is yet another "war prize" brought to the U.S.; it was found last year, having been been packed-away since the 1940’s. (Axis aircraft plates and assorted other plane parts were popular WW2 souvenirs.) This He 111, a H-6 model Werk-Nr. 4316, was built by Heinkel at Rostock. It was accepted in July 1941. Air Ministry and Heinkel inspector stamps are present next to the date entry. Also note the stamped addition of “TROP”, indicating a tropical use configured aircraft, above the Typ. entry box. Finally, traces of blue color 65 or 76 are evident.

I look forward to hearing what David Ransome may say about this one, and others too.

Thanks again to Artie Bob for sharing the image of a Hs 129 ID plate as found in an Allied intelligence report. I hope to see more of those, as well as any other plates TOCH members wish to share.

Steve
