Re: Hand written Staffelkapitaen letter - Can anyone read?

Melvin, herewith not a verbatim account but certainly the gist of the letter, which is addressed to Annemarie Regener and was sent on 11 Sept. 1942.

It tells that her husband, Obfw. Walter Regener and his crew, have been missing since 6 Sept. 1942. They had been ordered to attack an airfield in Egypt and nothing has been heard from them since then. The writer points out that one has to be prepared for the dangers of operations but there is still the chance that such a battle-hardened and experienced crew have survived as PoW. Seemingly, the Briish take their time announcing names of prisoners, he says. The writer encourages the relatives not to lose heart, goes on to say that he will be in touch as soon as definite news is received, and that the missing crew members are valued and irreplacable members of the unit.

Hope this helps,
Bill
