Re: Damaged plain in Larissa airfield
I wasn't going to say anything, but now that Byron's latest pic captioned 'Salonika' has been posted, I will tell you: that mountain in the background of the first picture made me think immediately of the prominent peak to the east of Thessaloniki. It was nicknamed 'The Devil's Eye' by Tommys in WW1 because of the shape of an exposed seam of marble (maybe granite?) on the south facing slope.

The pictures are not mine, I just found them with a quick search.
Hope this isn't a wild goose chase, but it looks exactly like the first picture when viewed from the road, which I do a couple of times every year.
