Re; the photo in post #1 that stared this debate.
It appears to me that the light colour on the rudder is the same as the trim of the Hakenkreuz which it blends into, which is white. This is more obvious in the photo included in post #49 and repeated in #50 .
I had always assumed that it was a tactical identification marking.
