23 June 1944 - III./JG 54 versus 229 Sqn, RAF

Hi guys

Many thanks for your replies. Apparently, III./JG 54 lost two pilots in aerial combat that day, these being Unteroffizier Willi Birn of 2./JG 54 who was killed in Fw 190 A-8 "Red 3" (W.Nr. 171 021) over the Orne estuary and Unteroffizier Otto Venjakob (25 victories, DK-G) who was listed as missing in Fw 190 "White 4" (W.Nr. 171 057) in the Evreux-Caen area. I have seen some information that suggests the latter may have been brought down by P-47 fighters but nothing definite.

Horrido!

Leo
