Fairey Swordfish force landed off Norway, 2 September 1939.
Hello,
Could anyone provide any details please on the Fairey Swordfish of the Fleet Air Arm (maybe from 820 Squadron) which apparently had to land in the water at Sognefjord, north of Bergen in Norway on 2 September 1939 ?
The crew were picked up by a Royal Norwegian Navy Hover MF11 floatplane and were able to return to Britain by ship from Bergen before the declaration of war by Britain on Germany the following day. The aircraft code was 'M' or '4M'.
Any confirmation of the unit, crew names, aircraft serial number or other details would be great.
Regards,
Martin Gleeson.
