1942-02-15: U-331 rescued 5 airmen of a Savoia-Marchetti SM.79
U-331 (Kptlt Hans-Diedrich Freiherr von Tiesenhausen) rescued five crewmen of an Italian bomber from a rubber dinghy in the Mediterranean Sea in M.Qu. CO 9225 (approx. 31°57'N, 26°18'E, about 30 nautical miles north-east of Sidi Barrani, Egypt) at 2020hrs on 15 February 1942. The survivors stated that their aircraft had been shot down by three Curtiss fighters after a successful attack on a cruiser.
