Re: Bf 109 Landing Gear Questions
In FiAF it was seen that technically they had two Bf 109 G-6 types: G-6a ja G-6b. These were FiAF not German designations:
a 660x160 wheels/ pressure 5,0/oleo strut 8-2787-11 and -12
b 660x160 wheels/ pressure 5,0/oleo strut 8-2787-13 and -14
In Finland the use of external loads (bomb, drop tank, gun gondola) on Bf 109G-2 were forbidden (oleo strut 8-2787-07 and -08).
On the G-6a –a/c one external load item was allowed. So if the 300-ltr drop tank was installed, no gun gondolas and also other way around. Finns tried to solve this problem by developing 150 ltr drop tank but the first deliveries arrived to units only in August 1944.
G-6b - a/c two external load items was allowed. So these a/c could carry both the 300-ltr drop tank and the gun gondolas.
