Re: Max Nairz and Rolf Schulte?
Hi Scott
On 10 February 1944, Feldwebel Max Nairz led a Rotte of 9./JG 53 and a few kilometres north of Nettuno, over Allied territory, was attacked by RAF Spitfire fighters. In the ensuing combat, Nairz was shot down in Bf 109 G-6 (WNr 140042) “Yellow 6” + I. Nairz baled out of his stricken machine with some difficulty. He was slightly injured in the incident and was captured by Allied troops soon after landing.
Unteroffizier Rolf Schulte suffered engine failure on 28 January 1944 necessitating a forced-landing of his Bf 109 G-6 (WNr 160634) "White 15" + | south of Rome. He sustained injuries in the incident. Whether of not these injuries prevented his return to combat duty is not stated.
