Larry, thanks for posting this.

While this article offers a beautiful story, the main questions for me remains unanswered.

Why Germans between 30 April and 3 May 1945 were bothered to destroy files of Military Science branch of the Luftwaffe? (What was the point of burning say, for example, KTBs of units and formations for mid-war period? Or papers and studies dealing with experience of tactical units or formations of Luftwaffe early in the war? What kind of confidential information this collection might contain?)

How estimates in percentage of surviving and destroyed documents were calculated?

How this burning was technically achieved?

Upd.
And one more question. Many documents existed in several (sometimes even in two-digit numbers) copies as could be gleaned from surviving documentation. I found it very improbable that all these copies were then collected into one bunch of documents and eventually burned in 44 hours
