Re: Were was beacon Buncher #5 in England

Not sure if you are looking for Buncher or Splasher sites

Bunchers were set up near each airfield and were operated by the USAAF Buncher 5 = Hardwick and Buncher 7 = Bury St Edmunds

A Group would often form up on a Buncher, in the 1st and 3rd ADs a Group would tend to use the same Buncher all the time

The 8th used a number of Splashers, operated by the RAF that were in its area
Splasher 4 - Louth
Splasher 5 - Mundesley (near Cromer)
Splasher 6 - Scole (S of Norwich)
Splasher 7 - Braintree
Splasher 10 - Windlesham
Splasher 16 - Brampton Grange

Take your pick (ref Mighty Eighth War Manual, R.Freeman)

Martin
