Re: Niobe sinking on 16 VII 1944

According to an old book I have "N.A. Piterskij: Die Sowjetflotte im Zweiten Weltkrieg" Lt.Col. V.I.Rakov hit NIOBE with 3 bombs and in consequence she was set on fire and got a list; some minutes later Lt.Col. I.N. Ponomarew´s Pe-2s of 12 GBAP attacked and hit NIOBE with 6 x 1,000kg bombs from just 30m altitude which sank. The transport (that couldn´t be found in axis records) was credited to Kapitan Tichomirow. Piterskij mentioned only 28 "divebombers" under command of HSU Rakow, certainly referring to the Pe-2s only.
