Hurricane & Spitfire Losses 1940.
I've come across some figures for Hurricane and Spitfire losses (by William Green) in the Battle For France and the Battle of Britain. Not sure how accurate they are and am wondering if anyone can confirm or deny.
Hurricane
a) May 10 to June 20 - 386 destroyed
b) August 1 to September 30 - 448 destroyed, write off's 104 and 144 damaged but repaired. Total 696.
c) October 1940 - 240 destroyed or damaged
Spitfire
a) August - 118 destroyed, 64 write-off's and 55 damaged but repairable.
b) September - 130 destroyed, 71 write-off's and 80 damaged.
NB: Definitions
a) Destroyed refers to those aircraft lost directly to combat with the enemy.
b) Write-Off can be a loss due to enemy action that's not repairable, landing accidents and ground attacks.
c) Damaged covers any aircraft partially damaged by enemy action but can be repaired, although not necessarily immediately.
Anyone have a complete figure for losses, write-off's and repaired for the above period? Would also be interested in equivalent figures for the Bf109 and the Me110 during the same period.
