F/L Anthony 'Tony' Golding Bird DFC and Bar had just joined No.19 Sqdn RAF and this was his first operational sortie with the Squadron. He had been posted to No.19 Sqdn with the intention that he would soon be promoted to the rank of Squadron Leader and take over command of the Squadron. He had flown two previous operational tours flying Mustang Mk.I and Mk.IA aircraft in the tactical reconnaissance role with Army Co-operation Command/2TAF Squadrons.
