First Encounter of Me 262 by 91st BG

I thought this may be of interest to some:

Mike I take it your question is when was the first report of German
Aircraft ME-262 encountered ? I seem to recall our 24th mission, flying "The
General Ike" 061 May 29, 1944 Capt John D.Davis our pilot with Major
McPartlin as command pilot returning from a mission to Posen, Poland, some
distance north of Berlin we were the lead ship in the combat wing, I noticed
many firecracker explosions some 100 yards at 12 o'clock directly ahead of
the ship, suddenly two of the most unusual two engine planes came from like
3 o'clock high down passing to the right of our #3 engine, both had no
propellers, we were dumbfounded to see those beautiful aircraft, I cannot
remember if we fired at them, if so they disappeared far below the formation
as quickly as they seem to come out of the sun and through the lead element
of the formation.
Reporting this to intergation officers they seemed to not take it seriously,
but we know what we saw.
This was the first and only time I recall seeing a Jet and frankly had never
heard of such an aircraft.
Time makes us somewhat fuzzy in our memory, but I can see them to this day,
and only thank the Lord those exploding cannon shells were ahead of our
ship.
Maybe other crew members remember this mission, Thanks for the question.
