Re: Circus 217, September 7th 1942
Hello all,
On 7 Sep 42 7 Fw 190 of II./JG 1 lead by Oblt Olejnik took off to intercept B-17's and escorting Spitfires over Holland. Fw Kaiser's Fw 190 was hit and made a crashlanding at Valkenburg A/F. Lt Endrizzi (4./JG 1) did not return - probably shot down during the first attack - was last seen at 6000 metres going down steeply through the clouds; sothat no observations could be made. Searches were in vain. Place last seen: about 30 km NW Leiden over the Northsea. The USA bombers were forced to drop their bombs in "Notwurf". One of the B-17's was hit in the engine and on fire. During the second attack no claims were made.
402 Sqdn (Sgt Cameron) claimed 1 Fw 190 damaged at 1025 hours near coast 10 miles West of Rotterdam -
133 Sqdn (P/O W H Baker) claimed 1 Fw 190 probably destoyed at 1030 hours out of sea West of Rotterdam. Baker observed that his Fw 190 "in a straight dive to 18000 feet during which time E/A took no evasive action. (..) He then went into the clouds in a vertical dive still pouring black smoke." Looks like that Baker claimed Endrizzi -- his observations corresponde with the last sights of the II./JG 1 pilots.
Is there any more info on Endrizzi?
Best wishes,
Rob
