Re: Bf 109E wk.nr.1983

Hi Dave,

No rear fuselage remained when the wreck was recovered.

When I looked at the loses of 14./JG77 and 5./JG5, there were no double digit numbers until the summer of 1942 when shed loads of F models arrived, went to 6./JG5 and other staffels. A lot of E's also went to 5./JG5 and I saw at least Red 14.

Pilot is unknown and have not managed to find a reference in any other log books. Usually it was recorded as pilots often returned to the area of loss, often escorting a Storch. Especially if the pilot belly landed or bailed out.

Perhaps one day it will be known.

Only things I would comment on besides the tactical numbers, is that it should be a pointed spinner and a full yellow cowling. The owner has decided to go for originality but these two items are incorrect on the airframe.

regards,

Mark
