Hi,
the GDPR is made for the protection of LIVING people. The protection of the basic personal information ends with the death of the person.
Serious researchers can get the information from WASt - but no fotocopies of NVMs. The WASt is not a public archive. Their main task is of juristic nature (pensions due to military duty, questions of parentage and legacy, identification of missing and unidentified, ...). The work of WASt is paid for by the German taxpayer.
