Nick, you say it appears 'in context of radar performance': does the Mobile Radio Unit name fit?
One of the tasks sometimes given to MRUs was to listen for enemy radar transmissions to identify type/location. There was nothing to transcribe, it was the detecting the transmitting device that was the object.
