Attached are 2 images of the NASM DB603 during restoration. I have marked in green where the engine 'Motornummern' ( thanks Steve) are placed on the exterior. Not sure if the DB605 would be the same.

On the side of the engine was stenciled paint of the number, the data plate was attached of the top edge of the forward engine mount casting, and the number was stamped into a rectangular raised surface (hidden by the black work jig ). Also within the engine some various major components were engraved the last 4 digits of the engine serial number, such as in the nose case.
