Just have to state that I totally agree with the above posters. The Erkennungsmarke would be the only way in most cases to positively identify victims of war.
I have also wondered how it is possible to trade on eBay Stammkarten from the Luftwaffe. (These are cards that were used to register personnel losses, and often have information in them that are protected as far as I can see by German law if they were kept in an official institution, "Datenschutz", right??).
