It’s not really accurate to describe NSGr. 9 as being operational once they had retreated to Innsbruck. I learned from veterans and preserved letters that it had been intended to go back into action from there but a combination of booging down, inability to secure necessary supplies and political upheaval in the city (a “free Austria” movement rose up) meant that the idea was abandoned, the crews holing up in an Alpine chalet until the US Army arrived.
