Re: Heinz Sannemann by Falk Breuer & Walter Waiss

" He was in World War II as a relay captain and group commander to the famous fighter squad Udet, but knew that only a few close confidants "

a good demonstration why translation software (..and especially 'google translate') will never replace a decent 'human' translator. There have been some developments in improving translation software and they can be tested at deepl.com
There's a free and a 'Pro' (paying) option. Its not perfect by any means but its a sight better than google translate

I've bought Sannemann's book - its an interesting 'social' history more than anything else.. lets try some of that 'blurb' again perhaps

"..He had confided in very few people that in a former life he had been a Staffelkapitän and Gruppenkommandeur in the 'famous' Jagdgeschwader Udet. As far as he was concerned, this chapter of his life was over and no longer worth mentioning. That his aviation career was not completely insignificant for him, however, is attested to by the collection of photos and documents that he left in his estate and which he had kept throughout his life. These include his three flight logs documenting some 1650 flights including 400 combat sorties, all described in detail, as well as his twenty-three victory claims (Abschussmeldungen) including eyewitness accounts, all carefully filed away in the back-most corner of his desk. His extensive correspondence with his later wife Marlies Dierks proved to be a real treasure trove: hundreds of letters bundled, sealed and stored in a suitcase. These letters, written almost daily, provide an authentic insight not only into the feelings of two young people who were looking for a modus vivendi in difficult times. They also provide an unvarnished insight into how political indoctrination manipulates people and makes them willing supporters of a dictatorial regime in their thinking. At the beginning of the war, the two were euphoric about the military successes of the Luftwaffe. Descriptions of aerial battles give a realistic picture of the deadly danger to which pilots on both sides were exposed..."
