Looking for 2Lt. Robert W. MENG - O-700505 - Ferndale, MI
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
2Lt. Robert W. MENG was pilot of B-24H-15-FO S/N 42-52417 on July 26th, 1944 when it was hit by flak over Austria. The ship ruptured airborne. Some parts of the aircraft recently were found in a pond south of Vienna, Austria.
2Lt. Meng and his crew were with the 760. Squadron, 460. Bomb Group of 15. USAAF on a mission to bomb the aerodrome of Zwoelfaxing, Lower Austria. 9 of his 11 men crew managed to survive via parachute. Here is the detailed crewlist of July 26th, 1944:
