Re: Leipzig 1944 Luftwaffe Airfields

Hello jusbur13,

For what it's worth, Erprobungskommando 262 was operational on 11 Sep 1944 from the bases of Lechfeld, Schwabisch-Hall and Rechlin-Larz, all at a distance from Leipzig.

On the other hand, in the above list by Joerg, Brandis is only 10 km. east of Leipzig, and Siegfried Schubert in a Me 163 of 1./JG 400 was credited with a B-17 at 12:38 hours.

Also, according to his flugbuch, [c.f. Ransom & Cammann, Me 163 Rocket Interceptor, (2003), p. 253], Uffz.Kurt Schiebeler of 1./JG 400 took off from Brandis at 12:36 hours on the 11th in Me 163 B White 2 and landed at 12:50 hrs. Beside this entry is the annotation "1 Abschuss B17FII".

I do not know if any of this is relevant to your inquiry.

Best regards,

Jim
