Re: New about Ho-229 from Classic

Hi Gruppe,

Since I helped the author Andrei Shepelev writing this book I would like to take the opportunity to advertise the book a bit :-).

If you are interested in the Horten Ho 229 and the story of the Horten brothers (Reimar and Walter) I think you will like this book.

It is published as number 12 in the well-known Luftwaffe Classic series by Classic Publications (an imprint of Ian Allan Publishing Ltd.). At the moment the book is at the printshop with publication aimed for September 2006.

We are very fortunate to be able to publish new information about the Horten Ho 229. Some of the highlights:
1) We will show photographic proof that the Ho 229 V3 was indeed assembled in the USA after the war. (A small reproduction of this photo can be seen in the Ian Allan catalogue at: http://www.ianallanpublishing.com/ca...ges/iaa106.pdf (Page 23).);
2) We will tell the history behind the extraordinary thick nose section of the wing of Ho 229 and the reason for the sawdust layer in the wing (Stealth related?);
3) We will tell the origin of the bat-tail on the later Horten flying wings;
4) We will present new information about the post-war whereabouts of the Horten flying wings.

Furthermore we will present a very extensive visual representation of the Ho 229 by:
1) A large number of photos;
2) Original drawings;
3) The full set of extremely detailed drawings of all the Ho 229 versions by renowned artist Arthur Bentley;
4) Highly detailed computer artwork by Andrei Shepelev.

We were very fortunate to be able to talk to Prof. Dr. Karl Nickel and his wife Gunilde Nickel (born Horten and the sister of Reimar and Walter Horten) who were both closely involved in the development of the Horten aircraft during World War II. They supplied us with very interesting information and details. Prof. Dr. Nickel was also so kind to write the Foreword for our book.

(By the way, the bookcover as shown on Ebay and in the Ian Allan catalogue is an old proposal. The new cover will be slightly different and the colour will be blue.)
