Col thanks for correction for Miller service number
on the night of August 7, 1938 Miller was piloting Hawker Demon K8199 of 64 Sqn with AC1 Howard Ambrose Peyton-Bruhl #523036 as gunner when they both bailed out of the aircraft at Royson, near Duxford, Cambridgeshire after he ran out of fuel in fog. This was one of four 64 Sqn Demons that had to be abandoned that night for similar reasons the other being: K8200, K8201 and K8185. The 64 Sqn aircraft were undertaking Co-Operation Exercises with Searchlight Battalions at the time
A fifth machine Demon K8187 Force landed in fog and undershot the runway at Digby "Crew of 2 Neither occupant was injured"
The aircraft were abandoned over Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Leicester
Hawker Demon K8199 was probably the one that crashed at about 4am in a wheatfield at Little Chishill, Cambs. Just prior to it crashing it had been "picked out" by the beam of a searchlight crew
