Years ago I saw on the Internet I saw a brief film clip from a UK Aviation Archalelogy website the discovery of a US world War II bomber off the English coast...
By accident I found this account in the Pittsburgh Post gazette April 6, 1944 p.2 story dated April 5, 1944 of a "Ghost Bomber" which was seen by a another crew: two liberators came under German flank--one was blown up; the second had 8 crew men parachuted out; the derelict plane flew 150 miles until the libertor crew shot it down in the English channel off shore--they later found the derelict was only 10 miles from its home base...

the 445th Bomb Group was stationed RAF Tibenham (AAF Station 124), England, 4 November 1943 – 28 May 1945

The only 445th Bomb group prior to 5 April 1944 was on 1 April 1944
