Hello,

Actual incident occurred on 27/28 September, 1944, when Lancaster I LL844:JO-R "Ginger Meggs", was shot up attacking Kaiserlautern. The pilot, AUS417673 F/O Murray Frank Sweeny RAAF, had to perform a wheels-up landing at Waddington with at least one 2,000lb bomb still on board. Sweeny was subsequently awarded a DFC for this and other long flights to attack German targets.
