Thank you so much for that, that is exactly what I was hope to find, my only slight niggle is that he was a Geordie born and bred.

He was born in Newcastle in 1912 but someone told me he was an American in the RCAF on another forum a few months ago.

I think the chances of two Flt Lt Woodger's being shot down on the same day in the same place is pretty remote and him launching from an aircraft carrier matches his earlier service, this has to be him.

I'll get a copy of the book, is that where this story came from?
