An F6F Hellcat wreck was recovered from the sea in the 70' north of the coast of Herm, this island being east and close to Guernsey. This loss has never been really solved to my knowledge and is said to have happened in June 1944 on the wikilist. Thanks to your finding, I Believe that the Germans may have identified the Hellcat for a Wildcat by mistake and that we have now the exact date of the incident. I hope some that Fleet Air Arm historians could find a match now!
