Sub/Lt Bulmer, Shot Down July 20, 1940
I am trying to establish what happened to Sub/Lt (FAA) G.G.R. Bulmer of 32 Squadron who was shot down by a Bf 109 of JG51 and killed on July 20 1940. Mason, and several other sources list Bulmer as baling out over the Channel and drowning, BOB Then and Now states that 'there is some evidence which suggests that this aircraft crashed at Lydden.' F/L Olive of 65 Squadron was an eyewitness to the loss of Bulmer, stating in this Combat Report that he: 'noted position of parachute which had landed one mile S.W. of Shepherdswell and 4-5 miles N.E. of Dover'. The Admiralty Casualty file lists him as 'missing presumed dead in an aircraft accident'. Did he drown? Did he come down on land, in which case was his body recovered?
