Attack on Conches, 23 Sep. 1943

Ramrod 240/I, an attack on Conches Aerodrome by 72 Marauders with fighter cover, took place on the morning of 23 September 1943, and involved the following units: -

Close Escort – 306, 308, 402 and 416 Squadrons
Escort Cover – 41, 66, 91 and 453 Squadrons
High Cover – 485 and 541 Squadrons

Top Cover – 19 and 65 Squadrons

The Marauders dropped 694 x 300 lb. bombs and hit buildings and runways in the southeast corner of the airfield. According to the
41 Squadron ORB, the bombing results were considered "good with the exception that one stick of bombs fell on the village."

Can anyone shed any light on the hits on the village, please, and give me any information on damage and any possible casualties which resulted?

Thanks
Steve
