"SAN DIEGO, Cal, Sept. 26 th 1929. A last-minute leap from an airplane flying at sea was credited today with saving the life of Lieutenant JP De Shazo, navy pilot.
He was 4000 feet above the sea north of here yesterday when his plane fouled a target which was being towed by another craft.
The flier leaped, trusting to his parachute and life preserver. Half an hour later a fishing boat picked him, up. He was not injured."
De Shazo was killed 27th August 1930 ??
Killed Navy speed race at the national air meet at Chicago 27/28 ?August 1930 at Curtis Field, Killed himself and a concession holder (Louis Winert, press agent for Erlanger theater) as his aircraft plunged to the ground after being caught in propeller backwash 12 other injured. - Type unknown
