Hannover Aircraft of WWI

Hannover Aircraft of WWI by Colin A. Owers & Jack Herris

Anyone who has previously read one of Aeronaut Books earlier publications in the series A Centenial Perspective on Great War Airplanes will have certain expectations with regards to the content of this volume on Hannover aircraft. Those expectations will probably be exceeded. Sure, the standard format is followed as regards the high volume of photographs, scale drawings and colour profiles by Ronny Bar. There are many photographs, some unknown to this writer and I was pleased by the captions. It is always great to see new images of the Hannover machine even though they have been well covered by Albatros publications too. Although Ronny Bar’s profiles are always high quality, somehow these struck me as even better than usual.

Where this volume stands out is in the quality of the text. This is far better than usual for a publication covering WW.I aircraft and all the main Hannover constructed aircraft are covered and sections on the Hannover in combat and the Hannover post war are included. With regard to the latter, there is good coverage of post war operators including Poland and Norway. The technical side of the aircraft too is well covered with manuals for the C.III/IIIa and C.V and as a person particularly interested in serial numbers I pleased to find some new information correcting faulty ealier information from another source concerning the C.V. If you’ve ever been tempted to buy an Aeronaut book ,but hesitated, you could do a lot worse than buy this one.
